What is the Progress Tutoring approach?Progress Tutoring follows the 3 P's. Personalized Practical Progress. Personalized: Tutoring should be personal. This means that each session is adapted to your student's needs in the moment. Based on your student's intake session or academic goals, session materials are chosen in advance. However, unlike in the classroom, sessions are modified in the moment. If students have a high interest that day in reading about a particular topic, if there is a pressing academic need or topic at school that needs to be reviewed, or if the student is tired or showing exceptional understanding of a concept, other resources or strategies will be used immediately. Practical: Tutoring should be practical. It should make sense for the student. In a regular classroom, students could be engaging with material that is far above or far below their actual level, making it challenging to access or too boring to engage with. Tutoring sessions focus on the basics first: addition, subtraction, multiplication or division; phonics, decoding, comprehension; grammar and sentence structure. After the basics are mastered, another concept can be introduced. Progress: Tutoring should be focused on progress. Every student learns at their own pace, and every session is meant to bring the student further along in their academic progress. All families that commit to regular tutoring sessions with Progress Tutoring have seen their students make progress in their confidence and skills.

How does online tutoring work?Progress Tutoring uses Zoom, a common online meeting platform. Once the session is booked and paid for, a Google calendar invitation will be sent to your preferred email address with a Zoom link included in the description. All you need to do is have the Zoom app downloaded to any device, click on the link at our scheduled time, and join the meeting! To keep students engaged, screen sharing of worksheets, slides, high interest books, or interactive games will be used. Sometimes, you might have a preferred curriculum or workbook you'd like to use during the sessions. In this case, you can purchase and download a digital version for the tutor to use in tutoring sessions.

Why choose online tutoring?Online tutoring is flexible and convenient. Tutors and students can meet anytime, anywhere through a reliable internet connection and a video meeting source, such as Zoom. Students stay in the comfort of their home, and families can easily hop in on the session for updates and collaboration.

How do I get started? The first step is to book a free 15-20 minute discovery call with Beth Valencik, the founder of Progress Tutoring. You will explain the needs, challenges, and goals for your student, and she will help you determine the next best steps. If Progress Tutoring cannot meet your student's needs, she will provide alternative resources and contact information for other services. If Progress Tutoring is the best fit for you and your family, Beth will help to schedule a paid initial assessment. This will be given online or in-person (if location is within 30 minutes of Progress Tutoring) and ranges between 45 minutes to an hour. Once the assessment is complete, Beth will send you the results and a recommended tutoring plan. Once you receive the results and recommended tutoring plan, you will be offered a quote for tutoring services and invited to start a regular tutoring schedule.
