Frequently asked questions
General
Progress Tutoring follows the 3 P's. Personalized Practical Progress.
Personalized: Tutoring should be personal. This means that each session is adapted to your student's needs in the moment. Based on your student's intake session or academic goals, session materials are chosen in advance. However, unlike in the classroom, sessions are modified in the moment. If students have a high interest that day in reading about a particular topic, if there is a pressing academic need or topic at school that needs to be reviewed, or if the student is tired or showing exceptional understanding of a concept, other resources or strategies will be used immediately.
Practical: Tutoring should be practical. It should make sense for the student. In a regular classroom, students could be engaging with material that is far above or far below their actual level, making it challenging to access or too boring to engage with. Tutoring sessions focus on the basics first: addition, subtraction, multiplication or division; phonics, decoding, comprehension; grammar and sentence structure. After the basics are mastered, another concept can be introduced.
Progress: Tutoring should be focused on progress. Every student learns at their own pace, and every session is meant to bring the student further along in their academic progress. All families that commit to regular tutoring sessions with Progress Tutoring have seen their students make progress in their confidence and skills.
